The Irish are a Division 3 men's rugby club. We were formed on August 6, 1975 by John Dooley, Thom Conway and Ken Ryan.  We're located in the Quad Cities, a graceful old factory town, straddling the Mississippi river, made up of 5 major communities; Rock Island , Moline , East Moline on the Illinois side and Davenport and Bettendorf on the Iowa side.

The Irish carry an A side, can muster a B side, run a Summer 7's side, a highschool Men's and Women's side and can (with the help of Pearl City) put together an old boy's side.  Irish teams have brought home numerous tournament championships among them the 7's National Championship, overcoming the Denver Barbarians 40-20 in 1986. The Irish have also grown top level athelete's within the rugby community, sending 3 players to the USA Eagles, among them Dan Kilen, Dr. Fred Schofield and Tom Billups, the Eagles head coach. Irish recent accomplishments are a birth in the Division III Midwest sweet sixteen. The real beauty of being a part of the Irish experience is leaving your sweat and blood in the mud and knowing your mates fought alongside you, captured the ancient tribal feel of war, and stood up for one another in a brutal physical struggle. We play to be part of the story, a story we carry in us, long after the match is done. If sports reveal character, then rugby illuminates it.

Practices are held on Tuesday and Thursdays at 5:30 at our pitch behind the airport in Moline. Anybody that wants to get a run in or learn more about rugby is more than welcome to join us. Our games are at 1pm on Saturdays in the Spring and Fall. We have parties immediately following all of our home games at Shennagins' in Davenport. Everybody that comes to the game is invited. It's a tradition in rugby that the home teams thows a party for the visiting team.
Saturday is a rugby day!
